So. I work in retail right now, at a dollar store. It's not the most ideal situation to be in, but it was there when I needed a job. Do you know those times in your life when you get stuck in a rut, and life gives you a giant kick in ass? Well this is one of those times for me. When I moved to Victoria, I had a much better-pay wise- job in a holistic pet store. Things went sour there, and in October of last year I landed another job which paid less but offered much less stress (at the time). I told the boss right out from the start that I needed 35 hours minimum a week. I got those 35 hours a week, from October to the end of Dec, and things were good. We were getting by, albiet tightly. Come January, I expected a slight (emphasis on slight) decrease in hours, since I knew that the boss intended to keep me beyond the season. Well, it wasn't a slight decrease- my hours were hacked to peices.

No longer was I at 35-40, instead it was 10-25. Keith and I went from struggling to practically desperate. And finding a second job, for me, isn't easy- I'm pregnant after all. The boss gave me the old "we just don't have the 35 hours to give you" line. I began to notice the boss would not look at me directly when he had any of these talks with me, which made me start to lose respect, of course. I stayed on, because I had nothing else to do. Now, with the business still apparantly being too slow to give me extra hours (at least he's not saying otherwise), he goes and hires a new girl. To add insult to injury, he gives her some of my already low hours. She gets 25 hours, I get 6.5. Grrrr.

So. I am taking it upon myself to retrain, in e-commerce. I'm building a dummy webstore to start with, selling what I have access to immediately: I will be selling my photographic prints (and eventually other related merch). Once I get the knack, I will open up other stores, selling things that may come from other distributors, etc. For now, it's only what I've got available. The goal is to learn enough about e-commerce that I can make a living off of it.

Pretty soon, I will be posting here a shortlist of the photos that will be on sale there. I encourage anyone to pick their favourites (any number of them), and give me criticism on them. I will be selling my photographic prints (and eventually other related merch) on this web store.
